Did you receive an invitation to participate in the PEEP survey?

PEEP is conducting a survey to learn about the experiences of Philadelphia residents. This survey asks about the economic and social challenges that Philadelphia residents face. We also want to know more about how people improve their financial stability, increase income, access better jobs and education, and build wealth.

What we learn from this survey will help people who make decisions about policy and services understand the ways in which Philadelphians need greater support.

Responding

To make sure that we’re reaching the widest range of people who live in Philadelphia, randomly selected addresses will receive an invitation to participate in the survey. If you received a letter that looks like the image on the right, you’ve been selected to participate.

The letter you received also included $1 to show you that we’re serious about asking for your time, and we will continue to respect your time by providing a $25 prepaid card if you fully participate in the survey.

You can respond to the survey in two ways:

  • Complete the survey online! This is the easiest way to respond. Scan the QR code on the letter you received or click here

  • Return the prepaid postcard to us and we will call you!

    • Make sure to include a phone number where we can reach you and the best time of day to call you.

  • The PEEP survey is based on the New York City Longitudinal Survey of Wellbeing that has been taking snapshots of New Yorkers’ well-being for over ten years.

  • Most of the detailed information we have about individual and household economic and social well-being comes from national surveys and organizations like the U.S. Census Bureau. While these surveys gather important information across the country, they often don’t contain the level of detail that we’re asking for in this survey, and they don’t take into account differences that residents may experience at the neighborhood level. PEEP surveys aim to fill this gap by inviting survey participants who represent Philadelphia and the city’s diverse neighborhoods.

Accounting for neighborhood level representation is a complicated task and we really need your help, so please take the survey if you are invited to participate.

  • The PEEP survey has been developed with community needs in mind. We take language inclusion seriously. Recognizing that many Philadelphians don’t speak English as their primary language, the PEEP online survey is being offered in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Russian. No other surveys of this type are offered in as many languages.

  • PEEP is the Philadelphia Economic Equity Project, and we are a group of researchers based at the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania. Our goal is to develop research studies that help inform policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and community residents as they make decisions that support Philadelphians’ economic well-being and development.
